The Bulldogs Original Five to host event honoring first Black football players

The Bulldogs Original Five Foundation is hosting the premiere of “The First Five: Legacy in Motion,” a documentary honoring the first Black scholarship players in University of Georgia football. The event will occur at The Gathering Spot in Atlanta on Sunday, Feb. 22 from 5 to 8 p.m. with ticket prices starting at $40 for general admission and $100 for a VIP reception. Tickets can be purchased at bulldogsfive.org.

The foundation is a nonprofit that provides scholarships to promote academics, athletics and professionalism to current and future UGA students.

The documentary honors 1971 football trailblazers Richard Appleby, Chuck Kinnebrew, Horace King, Clarence Pope and Larry West — also known as The First Five. These five paved the way for further diversity at UGA nearly a decade after integration occurred on campus.
